James F Kenyon is a country South Australian born Melbourne based singer songwriter. He performs solo and fronts the band The Lloyd Weir (currently Jason Bunn on viola/violin, Nick O’Mara on banjo/mandolin/guitars and Luke Richardson on Double Bass). The Lloyd Weir have been described alternatively as Slow-Grass, Highway-Folk and Alt-country, and “The band that blew my heart pieces and put it back together” - Robyn Chalklen of The Yearlings.
Following on from a successful EP release (‘Caravan’) in 2010, James F Kenyon releases his long overdue debut album ‘The Lloyd Weir’ in March of 2012 through Vitamin Records followed by a 10 date national tour.
James F Kenyon has been playing throughout the country for 4 years and over time built a loyal following amongst both punters and musicians alike. After playing seemingly every pub in Melbourne, he found himself in 2010 supporting Shane Howard, Charlie Parr and Dan Kelly amongst others, and on the brink of releasing his debut album. “I don’t know quite how to describe my music, but I try and keep a Blue-Grass ensemble (guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, double bass) and I try to get the best players possible” says Kenyon” “I don’t play Blue-Grass, but think it’s a fantastic collection of instruments both texturally and tonally”. Kenyon looks to Don Walker, Paul Kelly, Gillian Welch as songwriting mentors - “I find myself writing about the experience of living in this county, both urban and rural, and I seem to write from the perspective of the road- they’re road songs I suppose”. Kenyon’s fine songwriting, unique voice, compelling guitar playing and band of gun musicians mean he is emerging as not only as highly talented recording artist but a bloody good live performer too.
Look out for James Kenyon’s eagerly awaited ‘The Lloyd Weir’, due for release on Vitamin Records in early 2012. It’ll blow your heart to pieces and may or may not put it back together again.
